Frequently Asked Questions
I have tried therapy before. Will this time be any different?
Using a fresh new way of doing couples therapy, you will likely have a very different experience from before. Give me a call and I will be happy to share with you how Relational Life Therapy is so different.
How long will we be in therapy for?
Plan on 6 months. It will vary quite a bit between couples, but generally we are looking at first 3 months of rather intense sessions, and the last few months making some adjustments and fine tuning. I have many couples who continue to meet with me quarterly or semi-annually as a way to check in.
How much will our sessions cost? Can they be covered by my insurance?
You can get all the details of the fees right here. Many clients receive full or partial reimbursements from their insurance provider. Every policy is different so you will need to check if you are covered through a Registered Social Worker (BSW).
I am looking for treatment for my mental health disorder. Can you provide that?
I would be happy to provide referrals if you are looking for treatment options for mental health or addiction issues. I am not a psychotherapist or a psychologist, and do not provide counselling for mental health or addiction issues.
What kind of training do you have in working with couples?
I graduated in Professional Counselling with an emphasis on couples and family therapy. I went on to complete a certificate in EFT for Couples with Sue Johnson. I continued further education and became a certified member of the Prepare-Enrich for couples where I am an approved facilitator. I am also an approved member of the Gottman Checkup. Several years ago I began my studies in Relational Life Therapy where I completed all 3 levels, all geared towards couples therapy, where I am now an Advanced Relational Therapist. My full time practice in Burlington is 100% focused on couples, marriages and relationships.
